SCHOLARSHIPS

The Jacqueline and Paul Desmarais Scholarship Fund is designed to address the growing need for financial aid and to encourage music and dance students to pursue their education. In 2024, a total of CAN$ 235,000 in scholarships and financial aid was awarded to the Academy participants. 


SCHOLARSHIP attribution

All applicants duly registered by the deadline for a summer session at DFCA is automatically eligible to the scholarship process.

Students are selected upon recommendation of the evaluation committee and recipients are advised once their admission to the Academy is confirmed.

Scholarships awarded have a minimum value of CAN$ 500 for a 2-week program or CAN$ 1,000 for a 4-week program. They are offered to students who distinguish themselves with a very high level of musical performance of their audition material and quality of their record.


FINANCIAL AID

Financial aid can be offered to students registered for a session of 2 weeks or more, and who, upon registration, applied for financial aid by submitting in a letter of justification. This letter should outline one's financial needs for studying at DFCA. Financial aid can be cumulated with other scholarships, depending on the selection committee’s evaluation of the applicant's record.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I am applying for financial aid and it requires a cover letter. What is it exactly?
A. A justification letter should explain, in 3 or 4 paragraphs, your financial situation and why you should be considered for financial aid.

Q. Can I still apply after the deadline?
A. Yes, we accept late applications if spots are still available. Please note that late applications are not eligible for scholarships.

Q. How do I upload my videos on YouTube?
A. To upload your videos, create a free account at www.youtube.com. Select "Upload" and the "Unlisted" option. The video will be accessible only to those who have received the link.

Q. When will I know if I have been accepted?
A. Admission decisions are sent via e-mail starting mid-March. If you have a deadline with another program and need to know sooner, please contact us. We will check with the evaluation committee if a more timely reply can be provided.

Q. When will I get a response if I am on the waiting list?
A. Participants have approximately 1 week to confirm their attendance after admission to the session; the waiting list is then used to fill the available places based on the confirmations received.

Q. Can you tell me what teachers I will be studying with?
A. We will try, as much as possible, to respect your selection of teachers according to their schedules and availability.

Q. Are detailed schedules available before I arrive?
A. A link compatible with TeamUp will be provided to you for the a few days before the start of the session and will include all the details concerning schedule.

Q. What’s a typical day at the Academy?
A. A typical day for a solo instrument program includes a period for masterclasses and a period reserved for private lessons and personal rehearsal. The end of the afternoon is usually reserved for chamber music, Academy concerts, seminars and workshops, and social activities.

Q. What are the performance possibilities at Domaine Forget?
A. Several opportunities will be made available for all participants through the end of program concerts and the concert series Domaine on the road.

Q. What should I expect in terms of repertoire requirements?
A. Bring all the music and exercises you wish to work on during your session, along with accompaniment scores. Make sure to have, for each week of your session, at least one work that you judge to be performance-ready.

Q. Can I rent a musical instrument at DFCA?
A. No, DFCA does not provide instrument rental.

Q. Can we get an attestation of participation for a music or dance session?
A. Yes. An official attestation of participation will be provided to all participants and sent by e-mail at the end of the session.

Q. Does DFCA issue income tax receipts?
A. Receipts are issued upon request only. As for the Québec RL-24 slip related to Childcare Expenses, our accounting department will send you a form at the end of the season.

Q. Are lodging and meals included in the session fees?
A. The session fees include room and board. Rooms are randomly assigned based on the availability of beds. Towels and full bedding are included in your stay. 

There are no private rooms at Domaine. For students wishing to pay for single occupancy lodging, please contact hotels or motels in the region. If one chose to reside outside Domaine’s facilities, the costs and transportation become the students’ responsibility and the Domaine lodging fees will be deducted from your program fees.

In case of damage, vandalism, or breakage of Domaine property, the repairs, replacement, or cleaning fees will be charged directly to the concerned student(s).

Note for visitors, parents, and friends: the DFCA studios, dorms and student residence are reserved for the exclusive use of registered Academy students throughout the summer (June–August). Guests are welcome to use the cafeteria provided they purchase meal tickets in advance at the Box Office. Camping is not permitted at DFCA.

Q. May I choose with whom I wish to share lodging?
A. You can indicate your preferences on the application form. We will do our best to accommodate those preferences.
